DTF Printing Johannesburg Guide

DTF Printing in Johannesburg: What to Know Before You Order

DTF printing, short for Direct to Film printing, is one of the most flexible branding methods for Johannesburg businesses that need full-colour garment branding without committing to very large production runs. It is popular for T-shirts, hoodies, uniforms, event apparel, staff clothing, school merchandise, church apparel and campaign clothing because it can reproduce colourful logos, gradients and small details clearly.

At Sande Solutions, DTF printing is normally recommended when a client needs sharp full-colour branding on cotton, cotton blends, dark garments or mixed garment colours. Unlike sublimation, which works best on polyester, DTF transfers can be applied to a wider range of garments. This makes it a strong choice for corporate clothing, promotional apparel, branded hoodies, activation T-shirts and once-off campaign garments.

When DTF printing is the right choice

DTF is ideal when your design has multiple colours, fine detail, small text, shading or a logo that would be expensive to screen print in several colours. It is also useful when you need several garment colours in one order because the same printed transfer can be applied to different fabric colours. For many Johannesburg businesses, this makes DTF a practical option for urgent staff uniforms, branded event wear and small to medium quantity orders.

Common DTF printing jobs include company T-shirts, promotional giveaway shirts, school event apparel, branded hoodies, team tops, church merchandise, club clothing, birthday shirts, campaign apparel and workwear branding. It is also useful for names, numbers and personalised details where each garment may have slightly different artwork.

What artwork works best for DTF?

For the best DTF result, send a high-resolution logo or vector file. Vector formats such as AI, EPS, SVG or editable PDF are best because they can be scaled without losing sharpness. A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background can also work if the quality is good enough. Low-resolution screenshots, WhatsApp-compressed files and small JPEG logos often need cleaning or redrawing before production.

Before quoting, we normally need your artwork, garment colour, garment type, print size, quantity, deadline and delivery area. If you are not sure about print size, send a rough idea such as left chest, full front, full back, sleeve or pocket area. This helps us recommend the best placement and quote accurately.

DTF printing versus screen printing

Screen printing can be excellent for large runs with simple artwork and few colours, but setup costs make it less practical for small quantities or complex multi-colour designs. DTF printing is often faster and more flexible for smaller runs, urgent jobs, mixed designs and detailed logos. If your order is very large and the design is simple, we can advise whether screen printing may be more cost-effective.

DTF printing versus sublimation

DTF and sublimation are both strong branding methods, but they serve different needs. DTF is better for cotton, hoodies, darker garments and full-colour logos placed on existing garments. Sublimation is better for polyester garments, sportswear, golf shirts, matric jackets, puffer jackets and full-panel custom designs where the print becomes part of the fabric. If you are not sure which method is right, send the product details and we will guide you.

How to get a fast DTF quote

To speed up your quote, send your logo, garment type, quantity, sizes, print position, deadline and delivery area. Include whether you already have garments or whether you need us to supply them. For bulk orders, provide the full size breakdown as early as possible. This reduces delays and helps production move quickly once artwork is approved.

Sande Solutions supplies DTF printing in Johannesburg for businesses, schools, event teams, churches, clubs and organisations across Gauteng. WhatsApp us your artwork and order details and we will help you choose the right garment, print size and production route.
